On the 26th September, Work Better Innovations will launch its third series of the popular Job Preparation Support for for Migrants programme, led by our Community Director Anita David.
Short Introduction
Planned in collaboration with City College of Portsmouth and the Workers Educational Association, it has already completed two successful runs, evident in former participants’ feedback.
“I appreciate your support. I was new in Portsmouth and didn’t know what to do. It was really good that you showed us what to do and we saw that we are not alone. Thank you so much.”
The programme is driven by the Sustainable Development and Growth targets outlined by the UN, in particular by the right to ‘full employment and decent work with equal pay’ and the promotion of ‘youth employment, education and training’ at its core.
Through its bespoke and personalised approach, our workshop centres the individual needs of its participants, recognising that the appropriate training may vary from case to case.
Overview
The group setting of the workshop affords its participants the opportunity to develop in a friendly and socially stimulating environment, while 1:1 discussions are designed to address the individual needs of each participant and maximise their personal skills in search of suitable employment.
Over the course of three months, areas of coaching from:
*resume/CV preparation* to
*interview strategies*
*guidance on how to sign up to English/ educational classes to
*professional mentoring*
will be covered in depth under the supervision of experienced community workers and business professionals.
Participants will have the chance to learn about the UK job market expectations, the application process, their rights in the workplace and what are some of the characteristics of UK work culture.
A new addition to the programme this time is a special session dedicated to job fairs. Participants will be trained in how to present themselves confidently within the context of a job fair. Following the seminar, they will be able to put their newly acquired skills into practice via a visit to an actual job fair. Since such events normally attract a vast number of recruiters, this will be an invaluable opportunity to gain insider knowledge and come into contact with potential employers.
Together towards a Stronger Economy
Migrant workers are essential to the UK economy, as many of its vital sectors rely upon the immigrant population to meet demand, from construction industries, to transportation and the health system. However, due to unfamiliarity, the job market can often feel like an obstacle rather than a resource.
Migrants often face job insecurity, or in some extreme cases, even workers rights violations, due to a lack of educational tools and correct representation. With the right direction from community-oriented projects such as the Job Prep Workshop offered by Work Better Innovations, this issue can be resolved so that we may all benefit from a stronger, and more sustainable economy.
