13 February 2024. Dell Technologies’ 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report on Supply Chain Sustainability features WBI as a collaborating partner on forced labour prevention in Taiwan.
Dell’s FY23 ESG report details key actions and progress concerning responsible business practices in one of the world’s largest tech supply chains. Dell Technologies works closely with suppliers and partners in its commitment to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Part of Dell’s efforts to protect human rights and promote the well-being of people in its supply chain is driving ethical recruitment practices.
Through WBI’s work with Dell, alongside seven other multinational companies, on the Taiwan Forced Labour Prevention Initiative in 2022, WBI provided small to medium enterprises access to free training on forced labour risks, including the charging of recruitment fees and related fees on the workers.
The training focused on explaining the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) 11 Forced Labour Indicators via WBI’s Practical Guidebook with illustrations by the Taiwnanese cartoonist Stellina Chen.
The report stated:
“Dell does not tolerate forced labour of any kind. We abide by the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct, which prohibits our suppliers from charging recruitment fees to their workers, even in locations where these practices are legal.”
By facilitating this training-series in Taiwan, WBI connected with suppliers and provided them with the necessary tools to identify and mitigate forced labour risk in their supply chains.
This knowledge helped suppliers to better understand what global multinationals like Dell are looking for in terms of business and human rights.
